Recognizing Signs and Symptoms
Common signs- observation of the actual pathogen or part of the pathogen on or in the host plant.

1. Bacterial exudates or streaming from infected tissues
3. Fungal fruiting structures and spores
Common Symptoms-visual or
otherwise detectable (chemical means) reactions of a plant to infection by
a pathogen. Manifestations of the pathogen within or on a host plant.
1. Abnormal coloration: chlorosis (yellowing)
/ Reddening / Vascular discoloration / necrosis (brown tissue)
2. Wilting of host-leaves
3. Death of host tissue: blight / dieback / necrotic lesions
4. Stunting
5. Replacement of host tissue
